Privacy Policy

MyShadez ("MyShadez", "we", "us", "our") is a beauty community and shade-matching platform operated from Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect when you use our website at myshadez.com (the "Site"), why we collect it, how we protect it, and the rights and choices you have. We have written it in plain language, because you should never need a law degree to understand what happens to your information.
We process personal data in accordance with UAE Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 on the Protection of Personal Data (the "UAE PDPL") and, where it applies to visitors from other regions, other applicable data-protection laws. By using the Site, you acknowledge this Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not submit your information.
1. Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is MyShadez, Dubai, United Arab Emirates. For anything relating to your personal data, contact us at contact@myshadez.com.
2. What we collect
We only collect information that you choose to give us. Depending on which parts of the Site you use, this may include:
- Contact details — your first name, email address and country, when you join the Shade Collective, complete our survey, or join the launch list.
- Beauty profile information — the details you share to help build our shade-matching community: your skin depth, undertone and skin type; the foundation brand, product and shade you wear; your preferred finish and coverage; any issues you have experienced (such as oxidising or ashiness); your skin concerns; whether your foundation oxidises; your age range; and any free-text description of your experience.
- Foundation Finder answers — when you complete the Finder, your quiz answers (such as depth, undertone, preferences and whether a match was found) are recorded anonymously to help us understand what our community is searching for. They are never linked to your name or email.
- Shade card delivery — if you choose to have your shade card emailed to you, we use your email address to send it, and we keep a record of that request (your email address, the date, and whether you asked for community updates). We only send you marketing emails if you ticked the box asking for community updates; you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
- Correspondence — anything you send us by email.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal data (such as health, biometric or financial data), and we ask you not to include any in free-text fields. We do not collect payment information — nothing on the Site is sold at this time.
3. How we collect it
Directly from you, through the forms on the Site: the Shade Collective form, the shade survey, and the launch-list email box. The Site also uses your browser's local storage to remember your own activity on your own device (for example, so a form behaves smoothly). We do not currently use advertising or analytics tracking cookies. If we introduce analytics in future, we will update this Policy first.
4. Why we use your data
- To run the service — your beauty profile information is the heart of MyShadez: it builds the community shade database that powers foundation recommendations for women with skin like yours.
- To improve recommendations — we analyse shade data in aggregate (for example, "which foundations do members with deep, warm skin report most?") to make matches better for everyone.
- To contact you — only with your consent — if you tick the consent box, we will email you community updates, early access and launches. Every email includes a way to opt out, and you can withdraw consent at any time by emailing us.
- To issue your founding-member number and recognise your contribution to the community.
- To respond to your questions and requests.
Under the UAE PDPL, we rely on your consent (for marketing communications) and on the processing being necessary for the purposes of the service you have asked to take part in (for the shade-matching community itself).
5. What the community sees
Recommendations on the Site are powered by shade data only — for example brand, shade, depth, undertone, skin type, finish, coverage and country. Your name and email address are never shown to other visitors, never included in recommendation data, and never made public. Community insights are presented in aggregate (such as "reported by 12 members like you").
6. Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share it only with the service providers we use to run MyShadez:
- Google LLC — our form submissions are stored securely in Google Workspace (Google Sheets), and the Site loads fonts from Google Fonts.
- Hostinger — our website hosting provider.
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We may also disclose personal data where required by law, regulation or court order, or to protect the rights, safety or property of MyShadez, our community or others. If MyShadez is ever restructured or its business transferred, personal data may be transferred as part of that, under this Policy's protections.
7. International transfers
Our service providers may store data on servers located outside the UAE (for example, Google and Hostinger operate global infrastructure). Where personal data is transferred outside the UAE, we take reasonable steps to ensure it receives an adequate level of protection consistent with the UAE PDPL, including relying on providers' recognised security certifications and contractual safeguards.
8. How long we keep it
We keep your information for as long as it is needed for the purposes above: your shade data for as long as it powers the community database, and your contact details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymise it.
9. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS encryption, access to stored data is restricted, and only non-identifying shade data is ever read back to the Site. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take the protection of your information seriously and review our measures as we grow.
10. Your rights
Subject to the UAE PDPL and any other law that applies to you, you have the right to:
- ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- ask us to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete;
- ask us to delete your personal data;
- ask us to restrict processing, or object to it (including objecting to marketing at any time);
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out;
- request your data in a portable format.
To exercise any of these rights, email contact@myshadez.com from the address you signed up with. We will respond within a reasonable time and in line with applicable law. If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may lodge a complaint with the UAE Data Office or the data-protection authority in your country.
11. Children
The Site is intended for users aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy as MyShadez grows — for example, when we launch new features or introduce analytics. We will post the updated version on this page with a new "last updated" date, and where changes are significant, we will take reasonable steps to bring them to your attention.
