Our story

For every girl who was told “just go a shade lighter.”

MyShadez began with a simple, tiring truth: the beauty industry still treats brown skin as an afterthought. We’re here to change that — together.

The struggle is real

Why brown girls struggle to find foundation

For a long time, “deep” meant one or two shades at the bottom of the shelf — usually flat, often grey, rarely warm enough. Undertones got ignored entirely. If you’re South Asian, Middle Eastern, Black or mixed heritage, you’ve probably learned to compromise: a touch too pink, a touch too ashy, a jawline that never quite matches your neck.

Even the quizzes meant to help lean on manufacturer charts — the same charts that under-served us in the first place. So they hand back the same safe, lightened guesses, again and again.

Why it matters

Representation isn’t a finishing touch

When you finally find a shade that disappears into your skin, something shifts. You stop adjusting, stop apologising, stop dimming yourself to fit a product that was never made for you.

That feeling shouldn’t be rare. Representation in beauty means being seen accurately — your warmth, your depth, your undertone — without it being treated as the exception. That’s the baseline we’re building from.

Our approach

How MyShadez fixes it

We flip the source of truth. Instead of trusting brand charts, we listen to women who’ve already done the hard work of finding their match — and turn their real experience into recommendations the rest of us can lean on.

01

Listen first

Real women tell us their foundation, shade, undertone and how it truly sat on their skin.

02

Match honestly

We pattern-match you to women with similar skin — not to a marketing chart.

03

Improve forever

Every response sharpens the next match. The community makes itself smarter.

Meet the founder

“I spent years buying foundation that looked perfect in-store, only for it to turn grey by midday or orange by lunch. Like so many women of colour, I was told to make it work instead of being given the right match. MyShadez is the tool I wish I had.”

MyShadez was born from a frustration shared by millions. Growing up, finding the right foundation wasn’t just difficult—it felt impossible. Shade ranges rarely reflected real skin tones, undertones were overlooked, and recommendations were often based on guesswork rather than understanding.

Instead of accepting that, I started listening. I spoke to women of colour, compared hundreds of foundation shades, studied undertones, and documented what actually worked on real people—not just models or marketing campaigns.

What started as a personal search for the perfect match has grown into a community-driven platform designed to help everyone find foundation with confidence. Because no one should have to settle for “close enough.”
